Wanted to let you know that UGA Costa Rica has partnered up with Terrapin Beer to hold our first percentage night at their brewery on January 31st as a means to raise funds for a special Terrapin-sponsored sustainability grant. As you may know, UGACR operates with environmental, socio-cultural, and economic sustainability at the heart of our mission, which impacts everything from the student programs we run, the research/service initiatives we sponsor, and the overall message of our operation. In fact, we've recently received a special designation from the Costa Rican government based on our achievements in these areas. (Please see the attached story, "A Greener University" for more details, a piece that is prospectively set to run in a UGA publication soon.) With all this in mind, we've finally managed to get the wheels spinning on a partnership with Terrapin which seeks to raise money in order to fund a special scholarship for a student traveling to Costa Rica in either a sustainability-based program or else a special research project. The recipient will be responsible for returning to Athens and telling their story via press and pictures. So my specific question is if, provided that you happen to possess an affinity with any of these causes, you and your band would be willing to play a concert on 1/31 at Terrapin as a part of this benefit. We'll be obtaining donations from local restaurants, venues, even R.E.M., to donate various things for sale that night to bolster our scholarship fundraiser.
