Women Rock Out Cancer is grass roots event raising money for the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support, a program of Athens Regional Foundation, which offers educational and supportive programs for anyone affected by cancer at no cost. Services include counseling, workshops, support groups, complementary therapies such as yoga, as well as a library and internet access. According to Joel Siebentritt, Manager of Cancer Support Services at Athens Regional, "the Loran Smith Center is a welcoming environment with a top notch staff available to help patients and their families cope with the complicated and stressful aspects of cancer treatment and adjusting to life after cancer.”
The event is April 20th at the Office Lounge in the Homewood Hills Shopping Center at 2455 Jefferson Road and starts at 2pm, rocking late into the evening. Female rockers include Heidi Hensley, Sarah Zuniga, Emily Jackson, Kyshona Armstrong, Kelly Hoyle Fuller with Norma Rae, Heather Luttrell, Deb Carter with Scarlet Stitch, and Carla LeFever with The Rays. Outside there will be activities and music for kids, food and drink. Throughout the event there will be a raffle for great prizes from local Athens businesses and musicians. There will also be a pre-show at Hendershots Coffee Bar located at 1560 Oglethorpe Ave on April 5 beginning at 8pm Deb Carter of Scarlet Stitch, Emily Jackson, Sarah Zuniga and Kyshona Armstrong. No cover charge but donations appreciated for the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support. There will also be raffles and prizes to give away.
