The girl and her family were visiting a relative’s grave when the animal attacked.
The coyote grabbed the girl by her back and began to drag her toward some bushes.
The animal left a gash of nearly three inches on her leg as well.
Reports by the Orange County Register say Klarissa Barrera, of Long Beach, was given rabies shot and treated for the wound.
The girl was only a few feet from her mother when the incident took place.
The girl’s mother is Michelle Luper, she says she screamed and jumped toward the coyote prompting the animal to let the child go.
State wildfire officials were called and after investigating they shot and killed three coyotes in the area.
This was the first incident with a coyote attacking a person in Orange County in 2013.
