Still new in the ACC and perhaps a bit deceived by the love-in that’s gone on lately, Syracuse partisans seem a bit surprised to find a bit of Tar Heel snarkiness online. Come on, fellas, the beating heart of the ACC is…everyone hates everyone.
|Our advice on paywalls|
Well, not completely true. While Maryland’s hate for Duke is near pathological, Duke just…disdains Maryland for at least one more game. Not everyone likes Wake Forest, but the Deacs are not really anyone’s sworn enemies, either.
Clemson can irritate and Virginia can be aloof, but hate them? Not really.
But when it comes to UNC, and for the last 25 years or so, Duke, nobody likes those two teams, and as much as everyone hates us, UNC hating predates it.
And there are reasons for that, too, as Orange fans are learning. Dean Smith irritated a ton of people around the conference, mostly because he kept beating everyone. Carolina fans are a bit frustrated lately, but the arrogance is still there. These are the people who claimed God Almighty as a fan, after all (“If God is not a Tar Heel…”) We only ever claimed Devils as fans.
