49ers free agency rumors: Are 49ers serious with Nnamdi Asomugha, Charles Woodson?

The Internet is filled with an assortment of rumors, some real, some entirely made up. I know I just blew your mind with that fact, so feel free to take a moment to gather yourself. It's like telling you there's no Santa or Easter Bunny.

Sometimes it can be hard to sort through the truth, the semi-truth, and the complete BS. Late last night, former NFL defensive Akbar Gbaja-Biamila sent out a tweet about the 49ers free agency discussions with Nnamdi Asomugha and Charles Woodson:

If the name sounds familiar, Akbar is brother to Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. While Akbar had a limited NFL career, KGB put together a pretty filthy run with the Packers, grabbing 49 sacks between 2001 and 2004. His numbers tailed off after that, but he was a fearsome force for the Packers at his height.

Akbar works for NFL Network, so there is a certain measure of authority behind him. At the same time, that does not mean he knows all. After all, major networks have some seriously incompetent people working for them. That's not to say Akbar isn't correct. Rather, we have to take him with a certain grain of salt.

One notable thing in his favor is that he does have connections to both Woodson and Nnamdi. Akbar played for the Raiders in 2003 and 2004, alongside both. In a tangential connection, KGB also played with Woodson from 2006 to 2008.

I'm a little skeptical on the Woodson side of things given his agent's comments yesterday. As of yesterday afternoon the two sides had not exchanged numbers, so I'm not sure where serious discussions could be at this point. I suppose things could change quickly.
