A bright spot in a game that was mostly forgettable for Gamecock fans is the running prowess of Mike Davis. After rushing for 115 yards on 12 carries against the Tar Heels, including a 75-yard touchdown scamper, Davis gutted the Georgia Bulldogs for 150 yards on 16 carries. In Steve Spurrier's post-game press conference, he said "Davis had about a good a game as any running back I have ever seen."
Through the first two contests of the 2013 campaign, Davis is averaging 9.4 yards per carry and 132 yards per game. He has two touchdowns and two 75-yard runs, displaying a gear that is not often found in running backs of Davis' size. He stands at 5'9" and 215 pounds and combines power and speed that hasn't been seen in Columbia in quite some time (No, Marcus Lattimore, as talented as he is, doesn't have Davis' speed or power. Vision, patience, and effort are Lattimore's greatest assets). South Carolina has a great running back in the stable in Davis. As long as he can stay healthy, it will be enjoyable to watch him progress and continue to run through and past opposing defenses.
