As had been anticipated, the water level on the Bear Creek Reservoir is dropping in the face of that recent record-setting heat wave. Bear Creek is now the sole source of drinking water for Athens-Clarke County, with water levels on the Middle and North Oconee Rivers dropping too low because of the ongoing drought. Bear Creekâs water level has dropped almost a foot since last weekend.
