The DOT says it’s open early: the new State Route 191 bridge over Scull Shoal Creek in Madison County is open to traffic, nearly three weeks ahead of schedule. The bridge on 191 north of Danielsville closed two days after Christmas last year. The DOT rebuilt the bridge at a cost of $1.8 million. Meantime, the DOT says the Galilee Church Road bridge over the Middle Oconee River in Jackson County is in for repair work that will begin next month. The bridge is scheduled to close on January 2, likely not to reopen until September. The Galilee Church Road bridge will be demolished and rebuilt at a cost of around $1.5 million.
