Clarke County Superior Court Judge David Sweat sets an October 22nd hearing date to determine whether the trial judge on the Jamie Hood case can remain on the bench. Lawyers for the admitted Athens cop killer have argued that Judge Lawton Stephens should recuse himself from the trial, because he’s known by the family of Tony Howard, the Athens Clarke Senior Police Officer who was injured in the shooting back in March of 2011 – a shooting incident that claimed the life of fellow police officer Buddy Christian.
