They are now at Camp Shelby in Mississippi: some 240 Georgia Guard members shipped out from Elberton Tuesday, beginning a deployment that could lead to a 12-month stay in Afghanistan. Guard units from Elbert, Barrow, McDuffie, and Burke counties comprise the Granite Battalion.
