At first, the Hillary Clinton camp didn't want to touch the controversy involving Barack Obama and his pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright.  But that seems to be changing.

A day after Clinton told a news conference in Pennsylvania, "I think that given all we have heard and seen, he would not have been my pastor," the Clinton camp took on the issue directly as they lobbed verbal grenades at Obama.

Senator Clinton "said Rev. Wright would not have been her pastor," said a mid-day release.

"The Obama campaign's response?  Attack Sen. Clinton and accuse her of trying to divert attention from the Bosnia trip story and her record of foreign policy experience," the release went on, wrapping it up with one final dig.

"Sen. Clinton's response was sincere.  The Obama attack was disingenuous."

This tells me that while the Clinton Team may not be ready to make the Rev. Wright story a main battleground, they have decided that the dustup will get some of their attention.

Clinton evidently read from prepared notes when she answered the question at a board meeting of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, a more conservative paper that often draws barbs from liberals.

Also pushing this story along was news that Rev. Wright was being forced to cancel another round of public appearances, this time in Houston.  Also deep-sixed, an appearance at a church in Tampa.

Face it - the media can't wait to get their hands on an event where Wright is going to be the speaker.  I'm sure all kinds of shows are reaching out to Wright, trying to get him for an interview.  That would definitely cause a media frenzy.

At some point, Wright will do an interview.  At some point, he will preach in a church again and it will make some news.

The only question now for the Clinton people is basically this - how do you keep adding a little fuel to the fire, without getting blasted for doing it?

Team Obama can act as outraged as they want, but every time they do, the story gets pushed along a little more as well. 

This story will bubble along for awhile.
