It will be a most interesting photo opportunity at the White House this afternoon, as both Barack Obama and John McCain will join Congressional leaders in a meeting with President Bush on the controversial Wall Street bailout plan.
The two candidates joined forces Wednesday by issuing a joint statement on the recent economic troubles, as they called for action by the Congress.
"No matter how this began, we all have a responsibility to work through it and restore confidence in our economy," said the Obama-McCain statement.
While that was being drawn up, McCain rolled the dice again in this Presidential race, deciding to put his schedule on hold and go back to Washington, D.C. to see if he could spur some kind of agreement on a bailout.
Democrats wasted no time in blasting McCain for his decision, deriding it as a Political Hail Mary.
"John McCain is trying to divert attention to his failing campaign," snorted Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, who tried not to get a big smile on his face as he blasted the Arizona Senator at a stakeout just off the floor of the Senate.
"He'll be bringing his Presidential campaign to Washington with him," sniffed Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL.) "I'm not sure that is really going to help."
But the Terra Firma of that debate shifted a bit soon after those Democrats spoke, because by then, President Bush had called up Obama and invited him to the White House for today's Big Time Meeting.
Now both McCain and Obama will be here for a few hours.
The Big Unanswered Question is still about Friday night's debate. Does McCain go? Or does Obama get a 90 minute interview?
Stay tuned.
