Unless you turned off your computer and TV over the weekend, you probably spent some of Thanksgiving weekend chatting with friends and family about some of the big issues facing the nation at this time, like what happened the other day at the home of Tiger Woods.

It didn't take long for the finger pointing to start after the news broke on Friday, followed by some explanations that made many people wonder what really happened with Tiger and his wife.

"White House crashers...Now that is a story," wrote one of my followers on Twitter. "Not Tiger Woods."

Oh yeah, it sounds so simple.  We in the news media seize on one story so we can ignore another that might hurt someone in office, in this case benefiting the Democrats and President Obama.

"Somebody has to keep the media busy while Obama lowballs our troops with his idea of an Afghanistan strategy," wrote another listener to me.

"Tiger Woods is entitled 2 his privacy.  He got in an accident, recieved minor injuries & is doing well.  That should be the end of the story," I was told on Saturday by another listener.

Oh yeah.  Just ignore the celebrity news.  Like that's going to happen. 

I'm no dummy.  People might claim that they want coverage of health care and more, but the Tiger Woods story is like many others that grab the headlines and give a big ratings boost to shows like Entertainment Tonight.

Oh, wait one second.  Some of my listeners are saying that the media is going to focus on the Tiger story so that nothing gets written about the global warming story that emerged last week, with the controversial emails between scientists who say the earth is warming too rapidly.

That's a really interesting story.  But you know what?  It ain't Tiger Woods and his golf-club-wielding-wife.

I'm sure the Gang of 500 would agree.
