I was the first pundit to endorse Michael Steele for RNC Chairman (http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=30540) and I don't regret it. On the Tuesday edition, Michael will join me and we'll talk about his book, Right Now....it's kind of a twelve step program to get the Republican Party back on track.

Under the Gold Dome, the Governor seems to be playing "hot potato" with the Secretary of State's position. His first choice, Jim Cole, doesn't want the job..So the job goes to Brian Kemp (http://atlanta.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2010/01/04/daily8.html). The conventional wisdom was that the Governor would appoint an interim who wouldn't run for SOS and then the candidates would fight it out. That's not to be; Kemp will run as an incumbent and will probably win the seat handily.

Later in the week, we'll talk to Sen. Chip Rogers about the legislative session and then gubernatorial candidate, Karen Handel, the former SOS. Maybe we are playing "musical chairs" instead. (http://blogs.ajc.com/gold-dome-live/2009/12/22/handel-quits-as-secretary-of-state-says-shes-all-in-for-governors-race/?cxntfid=blogs_gold_dome_live).

But seriously, I think Handel made the right decision if she's serious about being a contender. The bets are on Oxendine and Handel or Deal to be in the runoff for the Republican nomination for Georgia Governor. In addition, Roy Barnes is approaching the 50% mark on the Democrat side which pains me. I like David Poythress on the Dem side.
