Defending the American Dream Summit, The Death of Nancy Schaefer

By Martha Zoller

On Saturday, the faithful got together to talk about how to move forward through to November. Over 500 folks got together at the Cobb Galleria for The Defending The American Dream Summit sponsored by Americans for Prosperity Georgia. Since it is an election year, there was not shortage of candidates.

To the surprise of the reporters in attendance, the people were well informed on the passage of the health care bill.

'Jim Weaver, 81, a retired GM worker, said it is still sinking in. "I was leaning for it, but there was so much bickering that it's hard to decipher what's real," said Weaver, collecting for the Shriners outside Matthews Cafeteria in Tucker.

He talked about the uninsured and closing the "doughnut hole" in Medicare drug payments but smiled, saying he really knows little about the 2,000-plus page bill. Nor does he think many congressmen do, either. "I don't think most read the bill," he said"

Unfortunately, the deaths of Nancy and Bruce Schaefer put a damper on some folks. Many from her north Georgia county were in attendance.

It was unbelievable to most that Nancy Schaefer would kill herself or her husband.  Nancy was pro-life in every way.  As the details unfold, it appears her husband, Bruce, shot her while she slept. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Schaefer family.  Nancy was "good people." A tough competitor and a fine woman. I don't know what would lead someone to this, but God is in control.
