The Week Ahead, Reed on Meet the Press, The Georgia Dome

Previous Posts

By Martha Zoller

Kasim Reed, Mayor of Atlanta was on Meet the Press on Sunday.  He's the last democrat with any standing in Georgia that people know.  There will be a rebuilding of the Democrat Party in Georgia and the Mayor will be a key part of that.  He has a history of working with Republicans and President Obama would be smart to think of him as a running mate for 2012 or put him in a key position in the administration.  My guess is, he's been invited to do the latter and has turned it down to further his own agenda.

Also, redistricting is in the air, even though the numbers don't get here until April.  Interestingly enough, Republicans in the Georgia legislature ended their contract with the Vinson Institute from UGA--however, they hired the people from the Vinson Institute to do what they were doing for redistricting in Georgia as a better cost to the state.  This change happened just as an embezzlement case comes to court of a Vinson institute employee who "borrowed" a few hundred thousand dollars from the institute.

Newt Gingrich heads to Iowa and Herman Cain to New Hampshire after CPAC. Let the race begin.
