Zoller and Bryant: Legislative Landmines, Senate and Congressional Fruit Basket Turnover, UGA President

Today we'll talk to the Democrats on the HOPE Grant, the political cover on the provider fee and the FairTax in Georgia--could it be? I attended the Walton County GOP meeting last night.  Walton County is the second largest Republican county in Georgia now and they want to spread the word.  Rep. Bruce Williamson and Rep. Tom Kirby were there to update on the legislative session.  They are working through a fast session and Kirby plans to introduce a Georgia Fairtax Act at the end of the session and then will debate it in the next session.  Let's get behind him on that.

Then we'll look at the fruit basket turnover in Georgia due to the Saxby Chambliss retirement. I'm predicting three open Congressional seats.  Tom Price, Jack Kingston and Paul Broun are likely to get into the Senate race and that leaves their seats open.  There were two candidates for the Broun seat at the Walton County GOP and there will be more.  There are also many, who plan to run for Price's and Kingston's seat.  The most interesting thing, was the discussion of who runs for the Barrow seat.  2012 was a gift to him and he may run for Senate. Michael Thurmond, former Labor Commissioner, looks like he's trying to be superintendent of DeKalb County Schools.  There will be more on that.

The Regents approve Professor Jere Morehead to be the new UGA President. And as his first act, he announced the largest capital campaign in UGA's history.  As a Bulldog and Alumni Board member, I can't wait to meet with him.
