First, the unbelievable story or fib around Manti Te'o. Turns out, the story about the grandmother and the girlfriend dying within hours of each other was a hoax. At least regarding the girlfriend. We'll try to untangle it. It's sad to see the AD from Notre Dame come out and have to admit this and say Te'o was the victim. Now a the dead woman has tweeted out that more will come out today. We'll follow it.
Then we'll recap the Eggs and Issues Breakfast, the Speaker's faux pas and the legislative session http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-jim-galloway/2013/01/16/your-daily-jolt-bloody-marys-stogies-dropped-from-senate-lunch-menu/ Speaker Ralston made a comment about "activists prowling that halls without name tags" He's sent a edict out that members should only speak to constituents of their district and lobbyists--not activists...we'll talk about it and I'll have a preview of the State of the State. Clearly the biggest issues are the budget, schools and health care. The governor has made a concerted effort to reach out to the grassroots and we will see that commitment to the activists and the grassroots in the State of the State today.
What does the President's gun proposals mean? On the surface, the 23 Executive Orders don't mean anything. It's a lot of looking at things sharing information and not policy. If you read the proposal and I have, it's a lot of words about nothing on the Executive Order side. On the legislative side, the restrictions won't get through the Congress--including Harry Reid. He would only say it was interesting.
Michelle Rhee on Students First will join us at 8:30 for the final segment. She's the great superintendent that tried to save DC schools. What does she think about the state of public education?
