Zoller and Bryant:3 Big Things You Need To Know Today: Crossover Day is Coming, FAMU, Ga Power.

It's almost Crossover Day in the Georgia General. Day 30 in a 40 day session.  If your bill hasn't passed on one side of the Capitol, then it won't pass this session. Unless it's one of those bills that gets dropped on the last day, like tax reform last year and they give them 2 hours to vote on it.  I'm just sayin'. We'll handicap the bills and pick our favorites.  Sen. David Shafer has introduced two constitutional amendments.  One to phase out the income tax and the other to replace it with a sales tax.  We'll hear from him today.   If you go to www.marthazoller.com you can see a rundown of the amendments or read below.  Also, Rep. Tom Kirby is going to introduce a two year look at the Fairtax for Georgia.  I support both of these measures whole-heartedly.

The new Tea Party target is Georgia Power, but many have it all wrong.  The PSC approves all expenditures for Plant Vogtle and many of the overruns are caused by delays.  Bottom line, PSC and Georgia Power are partners in this and there is no way not to put costs on the rate payers.  It's how this is managed and do we need to have cheap energy for the next 60 years from two nuclear power plants?  I support an all of the above strategy and in the short term, it's going to cost us.  If we had finished these plants 30 years ago when we were supposed to, this argument would be moot.

FAMU is still reeling from the hazing death of Robert Champion.  The people charged in his death will be charged with manslaughter. I met with the former President of the university right after the beating came to light and I'll share that with you.  In addition,  the young man was from Southwest DeKalb high school, a DeKalb County school. This story has many layers.

Why are we not sleeping?  Dr. Michael Thorpy..did a study of the most sleepless cities.  Savannah in the top 10...must be all the ghosts.  I think Athens and Gainesville ought to be there, too
