Zoller and Bryant: 3 Big Things You Need To Know: GAGOP Roving?, Governor Strikes Back, Fed Budget

By Martha Zoller

Today, we are talking about the 3 Big Things you need to know today!

The Ga GOP race for Chairman is heating up and the speaker list is being revealed.  What does the grassroots think? I think John Padgett is now the front runner, but in a very close race with B. J. Van Gundy. Alex Johnson and Seth Harp are also in the race.  This will be a multi ballot race without the contentious nature of the last election.  But Chairman Everhart has created a firestorm of her own.  My sources tell me that Karl Rove was coming to do a fundraiser for Brian Kemp.  Rove asked if it could be at the same time as the Georgia GOP convention in May.  Everhart agreed and wanted to have a big tent. Rove has been a lightning rod in the last few months with some comments about Tea Party Candidates.  Grassroots activists have assured me that Rove will not get a welcome from them.  My issue here is this is a big tent part.  Karl Rove has done a lot for the party and raised money to help in a wide array of races.  We ought to hear what he has to say and be polite.

Then, the Governor strikes back at the NAACP that, frankly, insulted him.  No other way to put it. In a 90 minute meeting, so called "black leaders" only wanted to know about race in the DeKalb County schools.  Not one question was asked about the accreditation issues surrounding the system. Newsflash:  DeKalb County Schools is a majority minority system.  People of color have been making the decisions over there for a long time.  Michael Thurmond is the new interim superintendent and he is Black.  50 years after the March On Washington, when are we going to start judging people on the "content of their character" and in this case the quality of their work and not the color of their skin.

The Ryan Budget is interesting on many levels.  It balances in 10 years.  It assumes the repeal of Obamacare and the reform of major programs.  But it also shows that revenues were substantially up before the tax increases in January.  We are just spending too much!  Let's pass and support the Ryan Budget.

And, should UPS and FedEx be responsible for the contents of what they ship?  If so, should the Post Office be included?  Patrick Fitzgerald from FedEx will join us to explain.
